Symposium: “Fragmentation of Globality: Rethinking the Legacy of Thomas Hylland Eriksen”

(Jonavos street 66, Room 323)

Thomas H. Eriksen Legacy Symposium – Young Scholars Workshop
The scholarly legacy of Professor Thomas H. Eriksen in social anthropology is widely recognised as outstanding. As a leading anthropologist at the University of Oslo, he conducted pioneering ethnographic research in the anthropology of globalisation, ethnicity and nationalism, and cultural complexity in what he famously described as an “overheated world” – a concept developed to address the challenges of globalisation, including climate change, migration flows, overpopulation, social cohesion, equity, and cultural resilience.
To honour his intellectual legacy, the Thomas H. Eriksen Legacy Symposium – Early-Career Researchers Workshop is organised by the Centre of Social Anthropology at Vytautas Magnus University and will take place on 11–12 February 2026 (Jonavos street 66, Room 323). The symposium is entitled:
Fragmentation of Globality: Rethinking the Legacy of Thomas Hylland Eriksen

The open lectures will take place as follows:
