Online academic ethics seminars for students

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures of the Republic of Lithuania, together with the Lithuanian National Union of Students and Vilnius University Students’ Representation, invites you to online seminars designed to strengthen the culture of academic ethics, responsibility, and integrity in studies.
The seminars are aimed at first-year students but open to all. They will be held in Lithuanian and English on November 10-27th.

| 2025-11-10 15:00 | “It’s Not a Crime!” Or Is It? The Role of the Office of Academic Ethics | This seminar introduces the Office of Academic Ethics: what complaints are received, what issues are addressed, and the main problems it resolves. Case analysis of academic ethics violations, academic and freedom of speech, Barometer findings, MSI survey. |
| 2025-11-13 15:00 | Citation Without Stress: How to Avoid Plagiarism and Sleep Peacefully | The training will present the essentials of academic citation – why it is necessary, how to do it properly, and whether AI-generated text can be included. The seminar provides knowledge on proper citation, plagiarism prevention, ethical AI use, and encourages responsible submission of academic work. |
| 2025-11-17 15:00 | When Does Science Become a Lie? On Fabrication, Falsification, Plagiarism, and Unethical Authorship | This training aims to explain academic ethics violations and their consequences, as well as how to prevent and avoid them. It presents what constitutes data misconduct (fabrication, falsification, omission, tailoring hypotheses to results) and how to ensure ethical data collection and presentation. It also introduces authorship criteria and what constitutes unethical authorship. |
| 2025-11-20 15:00 | Everything Considered: How to Properly Plan Research and Data Collection | The training will present in simplified form the main aspects of Compliance Guidelines, when to contact an institutional academic ethics committee, and how to properly plan research. Attachments will be introduced: participant information sheet, informed consent form, and data management plan. |
| 2025-11-24 15:00 | How to Communicate Science So Everyone Understands | The seminar introduces aspects necessary for effective and ethical communication of scientific information, educating the public, and strengthening trust in science. The Science Communication Guidelines will be presented, along with a checklist as a practical tool. Participants will review examples of proper and improper communication. |
| 2025-11-27 15:00 | A Person Without a Diploma Can Also Be a Researcher | The training introduces Citizen Science, its key principles, possible forms, and Citizen Science Guidelines aligned with academic ethics principles. Participants will learn how to apply it in practice to address dilemmas and how citizen science promotes the democratization of research. |
